Wigton Motor Club, the largest motor club in the north-west of England, embraced Motorsport UK’s National Motorsport Week.

To start the week, the Club took 15 of their junior members (between 6 and 16 years old) to the Rowrah Kart Circuit for a taster session. They all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and persuaded their parents or grandparents to pay for a second session the same evening!

Next, the Club invited the local MP for Penrith and the Solway, Markus Campbell Savours, along to their Cars and Coffee meet at their HQ, the Motor House. Markus met nearly 100  members to discuss such items as the upgrading of the A66, the importance of motorsport to the economy, and the need for facilities for motorsport in Cumberland.

The Club rounded off National Motorsport Week with an autotest on Sunday 20 July. The event gave drivers the opportunity to put their car control and precision to the test on a series of timed courses marked out by cones.

The day was well supported, reflecting Wigton Motor Club’s ongoing commitment to grassroots motorsport and the friendly, welcoming atmosphere the club is known for, a fitting end to National Motorsport Week.
